Wisdom Teeth removal?

It's just your gums splitting open to allow the teeth room to grow out. is it a bit swollen? and also what my dentist told me before was that if it wasn't bothering or causing any pains, you dont have to get it taken out. they just numb the gums, it doesnt hurt too much when theyre pulling it out!
